Best Broiler Pan Reviews

Whirlpool Broiler Pan: Best Overall Broiler Pan

The Whirlpool OEM Porcelain Broiler Pan is my choice for the best broiler pan for several reasons. This pan measures 16.75 x 12.75 inches (43×32 cm) so it’s great for conventional ovens. It has plenty of room for larger quantities, but it’s not too large for everyday use.

The Whirlpool Broiler Pan is constructed from porcelain ceramic which cooks food evenly and consistently. It has a black ceramic stand, broiler pan, and a perforated top pan. This pan is safe for oven use up to 450°F/230°C, so you can broil food without warping.

It’s easy to clean and dishwasher safe, as well. Some customers lined the bottom with aluminum foil to make cleanup even simpler. I like to line my pans from time to time, as well.

The porcelain is stick-resistant, but food can sometimes stick to the exterior. When that happens, it can be a pain to clean, but there are ways to make it simple. If you have issues with sticking or staining, you can clean the pan with baking soda to lift food residue and stains.

If you were to get a new oven, this pan resembles many of the broiler pans that are included with a new range. It’s durable and meant for consistent, long-lasting performance. The good news is that it’s also lightweight, especially considering the material.

This Whirlpool Porcelain Broiler Pan is one of the best broiler pans in terms of performance and wide-ranging appeal. I would recommend it for families and anyone looking to up their healthy cooking game.

  • Sturdy black ceramic construction
  • Large cooking surface
  • Oven safe
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Durable

  • Tough to clean by hand

P&P CHEF Stainless Broiler Pan: Best Stainless Steel Broiler Pan

The P&P CHEF Stainless Steel Broiler Pan comes in multiple sizes. I’m looking at the 9-inch (23 cm), but there are sizes up to 19.6 inches (50 cm). As expected, the larger the pan, the higher the price.

This toaster oven pan is made of high-quality 430 stainless steel. It’s uncoated, so if you’re avoiding Teflon, this pan is safe for you. The pan is constructed using thick-gauge material for a sturdy feel.

The roasting rack is woven with parallel lines and fits perfectly inside the pan. The deep sides help the pan prevent spills and overflows. The tray and rack are both easy to clean and dishwasher safe.

The smooth edges and mirror finish surface help the broiling pan easily release food, while the wire rack lifts food to allow hot air to circulate.

P&P CHEF Toaster Oven Pan with Rack Set, Stainless Steel Broiler Pan with Cooling Rack, Mini Rectangle 9’’x 7’’x1’’, Non Toxic & Heavy Duty, Mirror Finish & Dishwasher Safe

Buyers used this broiler pan in the toaster oven, in a smoker, and in the conventional oven. It’s great for steak, ribs, baked potatoes, chicken, and even cookies. You can use this pan

I like that the P&P CHEF broiler pan is dishwasher safe and free of toxic materials. I also like the heavy-duty feel of the pan. However, it does stain easily. Several customers reported stains that wouldn’t go away, even after using Bar Keeper’s Friend and other similar products.

Staining won’t affect the pan’s performance, and you can always use parchment paper or a silicone liner to prevent stains. Just realize that it’s a possibility.

If you’re wondering about the maximum temperature, I wouldn’t go above 475°F (245°C). The broiler pan might warp beyond that.

  • Solid construction
  • Multiple sizes available
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Includes wire rack
  • No sharp edges

  • Stains easily
  • Warps at extreme temperatures

Sur la Table Stainless Steel Broiler Pan: Best Small Broiler Pan

This Sur la Table Stainless Steel Broiler Pan and Roasting Pan set measures 12 inches by 9 inches (30×23 cm), the perfect size for most ovens and toaster ovens. This pan allows you to bake, broil, and grill food for one or two people.

This Sur la Table broil and bake pan is constructed with stainless steel for durability and scratch resistance. The stainless steel construction also means this broiler pan is oven-safe for high temps, perfect for broiling.

Sur La Table 12" x 9" Stainless Steel Broiler Pan includes Broiler Rack and Pan, Silver

The broiler sheet has slits to drain extra fat, grease, and oil. The perforated tray has small enough holes that food won’t fall through. This broiler pan is dishwasher-safe for easy cleaning.

Of course, stainless steel is not nonstick. So if you want to make cleanup even easier, you can always line the bottom pan with aluminum foil.

The major issue with this broiler pan is the sharp edge. Several customers complained about how uncomfortable it is to hold and pick up this pan without smooth, rolled edges.

  • Durable stainless steel construction
  • Handles high temperatures
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Includes roasting pan

  • Has sharp edges
  • Smaller in size

Granite Ware 3-Piece Set: Most Versatile Broiler Pan Set

The Granite Ware 3-Piece Set is made in the USA and comes with a roasting pan, broiler and grill pan, and grill rack. The roaster measures 14 inches (36 cm), while the other two pans measure 13 inches in length (33 cm). This set comes in a speckled black finish and is suitable for cooking a small meal of vegetables or fish.

This Granite Ware set is highly versatile. Use it straight on the grill or in the conventional oven. The pans feature heavy-duty carbon steel construction. Carbon steel is strong and safer than any foil-type pan.

The carbon steel core is coated with porcelain enamel for a cooking surface that is non-porous, non-reactive, and naturally nonstick. What’s more, this broiler pan is easy to clean and safe for the dishwasher.

Granite Ware 3 Piece Multiuse Set (Speckled Black) Enamelware Bake, Broiler Pan and Grill - With Rack Suitable for Oven, direct on Fire.

The bottom tray collects the drippings and excess juice to keep your oven clean. The bottom pan may also be used alone as a roasting or lasagna pan.

Please note that the porcelain surface is like glass, so it will probably chip if the pan is dropped. Customers confirmed that chips were common, even with normal use. This won’t affect the pan’s performance, but it can be a hassle and an eyesore.

This pan is lightweight and easy to use. It is on the smaller side, so if you need a large cooking surface, you might opt for a different broiler pan. However, the versatility and durable carbon steel core make this set great for those who want something that can go from oven to grill with ease.

The Granite Ware Bake Broil and Grill set is a great value for those who want a high-performing broiler pan.

  • Lightweight
  • Easy to clean
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Non-stick
  • Easy to use

  • Edges are sharp
  • Cracks easily when dropped

Nordic Ware Broiler: Best Nonstick Broiler Pan

I’m a fan of Nordic Ware products. They feature quality materials and a beautiful design. It was only fitting that the Nordic Ware Broiler Pan make this list. This is a compact broiler pan, measuring just 10×7 inches (25×18 cm). It’s perfect for a small oven or toaster oven.

You can also take this pan to use on camping stoves and RV stoves. It’s super lightweight and easy to carry and store.

The Nordic Ware collection is a nonstick broiler pan that’s made in the USA. It features aluminum construction with a Teflon non-stick coating to release food easily and make it easy to clean after cooking delicious meals.

Nordic Ware Toaster Oven 2-Piece Broiler, Compact, Metalic Gold

This nonstick broiler pan disperses heat evenly and allows you to use less oil to cook meat, vegetables, and more. It has a maximum oven temperature of 400°F/205°C, so it can handle decent heat. It’s not going to be your go-to for broiling steak, but it should work for a lot of foods without warping.

Several customers used this for heating and broiling frozen foods. The non-stick finish allows you to easily remove the food from the pan. Like other nonstick cooking surfaces, the Nordic Ware nonstick broiler pan is not dishwasher safe. However, it is easy to clean.

Hand wash with warm, soapy water and a non-abrasive sponge. Stay away from harsh detergents and abrasive scrubbers to avoid chips or scratches on the nonstick coating.

If you need something compact to broil food with, I would highly recommend this Nordic Ware broiler pan. If you’re cooking for a family or want to avoid Teflon, however, I would go with something else.

  • Nonstick coating
  • Lightweight, portable
  • Oven-safe to 400°F/205°C
  • Easy to clean

  • Small size
  • Not safe for dishwasher

GE Appliances Broiler Pan: Best Large Broiler Pan

GE is a well-known and time-tested brand, so it only makes sense the company would make a high-quality broiler pan. This GE broiler pan has a large cooking surface, coming in at 16.5×12.75 inches (42×32 cm). If you’re cooking for a large family or a crowd, this is the pan you want.

This GE pan features a solid carbon steel construction for long-lasting performance and durability. The core is covered with a porcelain enamel nonstick coating. The roasting rack is perforated to facilitate ventilation so food will heat evenly.

Because the pan drains away juices and fats, this reduces the likelihood of smoke during the cooking process. If you like to broil meat, this pan is perfect.

After using the pan, you can put it in the dishwasher or clean it by hand. If you do have to clean a broiler pan like this one, you can’t use abrasive sponges or harsh detergents. Those could chip the porcelain nonstick coating.

GE Appliances Broiler Pan with Rack for Oven, Non-Stick Pan, 2 Piece Black Porcelain Coated Carbon Steel Roasting Pan, Durable and Dishwasher Safe, WB48X10056, Genuine GE OEM Part

This GE broiler pan is the best broiler for most people, but you do sacrifice some versatility. With the extra room on the cooking surface, it’s great for making large batches. However, the dimensions mean it won’t fit in small ovens or in a toaster oven. If you need a compact pan, this GE one won’t work.

  • Dishwasher safe
  • Made of durable carbon steel
  • High-quality porcelain ceramic coating
  • Oven-safe up to 500°F/260°C
  • Lightweight

  • Difficult to clean by hand
  • Too large for small ovens

Range Kleen Broiler Pan Set: Best Broiler Pan Set

The Range Kleen broiler pan is sold in a two-piece set. Both sets have a broil and bake pan made from heavy-duty porcelain. They measure 12.75 inches (32 cm) in length and can be used as a baking dish.

This set is made in the USA with OEM high-quality porcelain enamel over a steel core. The coating provides a naturally non-stick surface to easily release food. The grate of the top grill rack allows drippings to drain down to the drip tray.

When it comes to the oven, the Range Kleen bp106x can handle whatever heat you throw at it. With a maximum oven temperature of 1025°F (550°C), you won’t have to worry about overheating or warping this pan. The Range Kleen BP106X is suitable for use on an outdoor grill, so you can use it year-round.

When you’re done using the broiler pan set, both the broiler rack and drip tray are safe for the dishwasher. You can always clean them by hand, as well.

Range Kleen BP106X 2 PC Porcelain Broil and Bake Pan 12.75 Inch by 8.5 Inch (2 Pack)

This small broiler pan set has a lot going for it, but there are a couple of drawbacks. First, the small size means you can’t fit as much food on each tray. This isn’t a problem unless you’re cooking for a large family or a crowd. Secondly, the coating is prone to chipping. This is a possibility with any coated cookware, but it’s still frustrating if it happens to you.

If you want a high-quality broiler pan that will last, this Range Kleen is a great choice.

  • Durable construction
  • Fits in toaster/convection oven
  • Can handle high heat
  • Dishwasher safe

  • Too small for a large family
  • Coating is prone to chip

Chicago Metallic Pro Broiler: Best Deep-Dish Broiler Pan

The Chicago Metallic Pro Broiler Pan is a heavy-duty broiler pan with deep sides and plenty of room to cook food. The interior cooking area measures 12.75×9.9 inches (32×25 cm). It comes with a deep broiler pan and a roasting rack/grill pan.

This broiler pan features a carbon steel design with a non-stick coating that’s free of PTFE (Teflon). The non-stick coating releases food and makes cleaning the pan easy and painless.

This broiler pan has a rack with steel handles for safe, easy lifting. If you’re broiling meat, you can easily transfer it from the pan to the cutting board with the side handles. What’s even better, the handles fold for easy, compact storage.

Chicago Metallic Pro Non-Stick Roast and Broil Baking Pan with Rack, 13-Inch-by-9-Inch, Dark Gray

This Chicago Metallic Pro Broiler is oven safe for temperatures up to 450°F/232°C. You won’t have to worry about warping or popping in the oven when heated. Make sure to use wooden or heat-resistant silicone tools to remove food. Metal utensils could scratch the pan.

This pan is great for a variety of foods, regardless of the cooking method. However, some customers had issues with the rack not being as durable.

  • Deep sides
  • Durable construction
  • Stainless steel handles
  • Non-stick coating (PTFE-free)
  • Oven safe to 450°F/230°C

  • Rack isn’t as durable as bottom pan

Broiler Pan Buying Guide & FAQs

Your guide to buying the best broiler pan

Most broiler pans look pretty similar, so it might seem like they’re all the same. However, there are some factors that affect how the pan is best used. You’ll want to consider these things when deciding which pan is right for you.

It may seem obvious, but you want to ensure the broiling pan is the right size for your oven, toaster oven, or grill. Broiler pans come in all sizes, sometimes up to 20 inches or more (50 cm).

If you’re unsure of your oven’s dimensions, you can measure the interior (turned off, of course!) before purchasing a pan.

My list includes pans of differing sizes, some with multiple sizes available. Check the product description for each pan to see if it will fit your oven.

Cooked steak on a wooden board

Several broiler pans allow you to also bake, broil, and grill. A flexible broiler pan is a fantastic way to save storage space and money.

A versatile pan will help you cook a variety of dishes, from meat, fish, and poultry to vegetables and even baked goods. The sky’s the limit.

Certain broiler pans feature designs that are best suited for either meat or vegetables. If you cook a lot of meat, I recommend the kind of pan with wide slit grills so the drippings can pass through to the bottom tray. If you love roasting vegetables, I recommend the opposite. You can also buy a broiler pan set with multiple pieces.

I like making homemade Chex Mix during the holidays, and my broiler pan is essential for this task. I also use my broiler pan to cook bacon, roast, and much more. Think about what foods you’d like to prepare with your broiler pan and then choose one that fits accordingly.

Ease of Use

Broiling pans are not inherently difficult to use. Nevertheless, some pans have added features that make them even easier to use.

Some pans have cushioned or heat-resistant handles for safe handling. Others have a nonstick layer to avoid food sticking. You can also find rounded edges to prevent spills and messes when pouring fat drippings.

Maintenance and Cleaning

If you’re like me, the last thing you want to do is stand at the sink all day having to clean a broiler pan. It makes sense to choose a pan that’s easy to wash, or even better, a dishwasher safe broiler pan.

If you choose a cast iron or carbon steel broiler pan, you’ll have to season it. If you want something low-maintenance, you might choose a different material.

Otherwise, the most important thing is to choose a pan made from durable materials that can handle high heat.

How to Clean a Conventional Broiler Pan

Watch the Queen of Clean provide a quick tip to prevent food residue from building up and sticking to the broiler pan before you cook:

If you already have a dirty pan, watch below for tips on getting the pan clean:

One of my favorite go-to tips is to sprinkle baking soda on the pan. Spray a thin coat of vinegar and let it sit for a few minutes. Then scrub with a plastic scrubber or non-abrasive sponge and rinse with warm water.

In general, broiler pans cost little and are affordable, but price is always something to consider. Some pans are pricier than others, but they might have additional features and a better design. Of course, you should choose one that’s within your budget.

What is the Best Material for a Broiler Pan?

Broiling pans come in a wide range of materials. It’s common to find broiler pans made of heavy-duty steel, cast iron, or aluminum. Some pans have an enamel or Teflon non-stick finish, while others are uncoated.

The best broiler pans are made of stainless steel, carbon steel, ceramic, and cast iron. Although they all prove to be excellent for broiling purposes, they each have their own advantages.

Cast iron is naturally non-stick when seasoned properly, and it’s inexpensive. It’s heavy and prone to rust, though.

Stainless steel is the most durable of the materials. It’s scratch-resistant and non-reactive. However, it doesn’t have even heat distribution, and food sticks during cooking.

Carbon steel is another naturally non-stick material when seasoned. It’s extremely tough and durable, and it’s more responsive to heat than cast iron. But it can be more expensive and requires more maintenance.

Ceramic is non-reactive and non-toxic. It retains heat well and can be placed directly into the fridge or freezer without worrying about thermal shock. The downside? Ceramic is fragile and slower to heat.

What Kind of Pan Do You Use Under a Broiler?

Broiling food is a way to cook food by exposing it directly to heat. This is slightly different from roasting, which is when food is cooked at high temperatures with all-around heat.

A broiler pan is shallower than a roasting pan, although some people use the term interchangeably. Many broiler pans generally come as part of a set, with an upper pan and lower pan.

The bottom pan, also called a drip tray or drip pan, is used to collect any food drippings, which prevents the food from cooking in its own juices. The upper pan cooks the food on top of the slotted base. This pan is also called a broiler rack.

What is the Best Pan to Broil Fish?

Broiling is a fast and effective method for cooking fish. The best fish to broil have high levels of natural oil, such as salmon, mackerel, trout, and swordfish. The natural fat helps the fish brown beautifully while simultaneously protecting against overcooking.

For cod, haddock, or any other type of lean fish, I recommend spraying a thin layer of cooking oil before broiling. Be sure to use an oil with a high smoke point, like grapeseed or avocado oil.

Looking for a great way to add fish to your diet? Check out my recipe for fish tacos. You can cook the fish in a pan or broil it.

What is Special About Broiler Pans?

Broiling is a quick, efficient way to prepare meats, poultry, seafood, and vegetables. It’s a great method for healthy cooking since food is cooked without the use of oil. Furthermore, the design of a broiler pan allows the fat and grease from meat to drip off through the slots of the upper pan into the drip pan.

If you want to save time and eat healthy, broiling is right up your alley!

Are There Any Disadvantages to Broiling?

Broiling has several advantages, but it also has a few disadvantages to be aware of. One of the main disadvantages is that sometimes food is unevenly cooked.

The broiler pan has a big influence on whether or not the food cooks evenly, so choosing the right pan is key. Fortunately, I’ve found some of the best pans with great heat distribution.

Another thing to watch out for is food sticking to the pan during the cooking process. This can make it difficult to flip and serve food, not to mention it makes cleaning a pain. If you’re worried about food sticking, you can always get a nonstick pan. The nonstick surface will release food easily and make cleanup easier.

Also, if you have a hypersensitive smoke detector or a poorly ventilated kitchen, be aware that broiling can produce more smoke.

Finally, broiling may not be suitable for all types of food. Delicate foods might require more gentle cooking methods to prevent them from falling apart or being overcooked. As I previously mentioned, fish with lots of natural oil will perform better than lean fish under the broiler.

Is Broiling Better Than Baking?

Both broiling and baking can be healthy cooking methods, depending on the ingredients and preparation. Broiling is a great choice for lean meats, fish, and vegetables, while baking is better for dishes that need to be cooked evenly or that require longer cooking times. Some broiler pans even double as a baking pan, saving you space and money.

What Are Some Good Dishes to Broil?

Cooked vegetables on a a broiler pan

One of my top choices for broiling is steak. When you want that perfectly brown, caramelized crust, broiling is the way to go. You have more control over how you want your steak, and it cooks quickly. Broiling is a great option for cooking meat, in general, but steak is my favorite go-to for the broiler.

If you don’t have a broiler pan, you can also use a cast iron skillet to cook your steak.

Another common dish to broil is fish. Broiled fish is quick, easy, and it has that nice crispy finish to it. Season your fish with spices and herbs to give it extra flavor before broiling.

Vegetables are also a good choice for the broiler. One of my favorites is asparagus, but you can broil peppers, mushrooms, onions, and much more. Simply toss with olive oil and add salt and pepper to taste, or whichever seasoning you prefer.

Best Broiler Pans: Final Thoughts

Have you decided which one is the best broiler pan for you? If you’re undecided, I would recommend the Whirlpool Broiler Pan. It’s sturdy, high-quality, and practical for most home cooks. Like other cookware choices, however, it really depends on the size of your oven and what types of food you plan to broil. With the right broiler pan, you can take advantage of all this cooking method has to offer.
