As tea has become a popular global beverage, mornings get even better with the delight of hearing a whistling kettle as your tea or coffee gets ready.

There’s no doubt that electric kettles are the ones to go for when you consider convenience, but using them isn’t as satisfying as hearing the sound of the whistling kettles.

I have both: The electric one is for when I quickly need to flick a switch. The stovetop whistling kettle is for when I want to take my time making tea or coffee.

I like the Pykal 3-quart kettle; it’s non-toxic, easy to use, and stylish. Want to know more? Then read my guide on how to get yourself the best whistling tea kettle in the market.

Why Choose A Whistling Tea Kettle?

Back in the time before electric kettles came to be, starting your day with a whistling sound from a whistling tea kettle was a sure way to brighten your day.

Quality wasn’t much of a concern; the traditional whistling tea kettles made by inferior welds were characterized by anomalies such as detached bodies or leaking spouts. However, modern-day technology has made it possible to manufacture efficient and yet affordable whistling kettles.

Tea Kettle Outdoors

When it comes to making tea, the debate is somewhat open and contentious, to say the least, whether to go for the electric or the whistling kettle. It isn’t surprising that many tea fanatics can’t seem to make up their minds concerning the two.

So, why go for a whistling kettle instead of an electric one? These are cheaper, more durable, and also easy to keep clean, and can be used outdoors where you might not have electricity.

Or–do what I do and get both.

Factors to Consider When Getting A Whistling Tea Kettle

Buying the best tea kettle is the pride and joy of every household. If you happen to be a tea drinker and lover, below are some things you need to keep in mind when purchasing a teapot to avoid getting disappointments in the future;

Conductivity

The kettle’s conductivity should be one of your top considerations when purchasing a tea kettle. As much as a thick, quality kettle sounds nice, it’s no good if it takes its sweet time to get the water boiling. We all want something efficient to cut down on our energy bills, and for this, you need to buy a kettle that heats water fast.

Rust Resistance

Low-quality kettles rust after only a few uses. Quality ones will serve you and last years before encountering any rusting issues. These quality kettles guarantee no replacements and prevent metal from leaching into your boiled water.

Size and Capacity

The amount of water a kettle can hold for tea is important, especially if you have a large family. The key is the maximum fill capacity, but some room needs to be left for the water to boil without spilling over and creating a mess.

One quart (0.9 liters) should be enough for making three standard-sized mugs of tea unless you are using large mugs. If using the standard-sized mugs, this is about 0.33 quarts (0.32 liters) per serving. However, if serving small cups of tea, 1 quart can serve up to six people.

Small Tea Kettle

Handles

The kettle handle should not conduct heat when the kettle is heating your water, resulting in severe burns when you accidentally touch it. Invest in heat-resistant handles to avoid these. Also, please pay close attention to the spout caps, as it might be tedious to get them open when they are hot.

Whistling

Since it’s a whistling tea kettle, the whistle should be loud enough for you to hear when the water is boiling. Some whistles are barely audible and won’t be heard, while good quality whistles are clear enough to be heard even over background noise.

Heat Source

When buying a tea kettle, always look for one compatible with the heat source you use. Some kettles are compatible with all the cooktops, while others require specific cooktops.

Material

Material is an important thing to consider when buying a whistling tea kettle. It influences many things, including efficiency, durability, ease of use and cleaning, and weight.

Whistling glass tea kettles are cheap, rust-free, and easy to clean, sometimes even dishwasher safe. However, they are not always ideal for use over stovetops as they don’t do well over direct heat.

Kettles made from cast iron are among the most durable kettles and are surprisingly cheap. The material is heavy and thick, making it a good conductor of heat. However, it’s not lightweight and can easily rust. Some manufacturers have invested in finishes, such as enamel, to prevent rusting.

Copper kettles conduct heat well and are shiny, thus looking fantastic in the kitchen. On the downside, copper isn’t as durable as other materials and quickly tarnishes.

Aluminum teapots are cheap and lightweight, making them the best option when looking for a light kettle. However, they aren’t as durable as they easily dent and tarnish. I recommend Aluminum teapots be coated in a non-toxic material to avoid any risk of aluminum leaching into your water.

Stainless Steel Tea Kettle

Stainless steel is an excellent material to use on kettles. Quality stainless steel is durable, conducts heat well, is sturdy, doesn’t rust, and is easy to clean. Besides, it comes with sleek and stylish finishes that add some touch and flair to your kitchen.
