All-Clad is practically synonymous with stainless steel cookware, but the U.S.-based company also manufactures stainless steel bakeware. This All-Clad Stainless Steel Baking Sheet measures 14×17 inches (36 x 43 cm), with plenty of surface area for baked goods.
This is the only piece on my list that features a tri-ply construction. This baking sheet is made from three bonded layers of metal, with an aluminum core and a stainless steel exterior.
The aluminum is great for heat distribution and heat responsiveness, while the stainless steel is non-toxic, non-reactive, and possesses excellent heat retention.
One unique feature is the angled edge, which makes it easy to take the pan in and out of the oven. It can also handle oven temperatures up to 600°F (315°C) without warping, so it’s great for roasted vegetables as well as baked goods.
Buyers gave rave reviews to the All-Clad baking pan. They loved the durability, performance, and ability to handle high heat. There were a couple of isolated complaints of warping, both at extremely high temperatures. Overall, though, customers loved this pan.

CopperKitchen is one of several brands that manufactures copper-colored non-stick bakeware and cookware. This CopperKitchen 3-Piece Baking Set includes two 16×12-inch baking pans (42×31 cm) and a 13×9 (33×23 cm) roasting pan.
It’s important to note that the baking pans do not contain any copper. They are simply copper-colored. Instead, the pans have a non-stick ceramic coating that’s non-toxic and free of PFOA, PFAS, & PTFE (i.e., Teflon).
These CopperKitchen pans are oven-safe up to 500°F (260°C), which makes them suitable for a variety of dishes.
They’re also easy to clean. Simple wash with mild dish soap and warm water, using a non-abrasive sponge or dishcloth.
CopperKitchen claims these pans are dishwasher-safe, but some customers said their pans didn’t hold up well in the dishwasher. I recommend hand washing to be safe.
Buyers liked the lightweight nature of this non-stick bakeware, as well as the excellent food release. because the pans are lighter than other non-toxic bakeware picks, they might not stand up to as much use over time.
The biggest drawback I see is that copperKitchen is not very forthcoming about the interior material. It’s clearly metal, but it’s difficult to know which type. It could be aluminized steel, but based on the lighter weight, I’d say it’s plain aluminum.

What Makes a Non-Toxic Cookie Sheet?
The toxicity of baking sheets comes from the materials used to make and coat the pan.
Baking sheets are primarily made of metal, like stainless steel or aluminum. These metals are not harmful in themselves, although aluminum does react with acidic foods.
However, many pans have a non-stick coating for easy cleaning. This coating can scratch off if you use metal utensils and eventually end up in your food.

While the thought of ingesting aluminum may sound scary, the reality is that the small amount that could pass into food is quite small and likely not a problem for healthy adults. It can be riskier for people with a history of renal failure or for small children.
If you want the absolute safest bakeware materials, I would go with stainless steel, cast iron, and ceramic bakeware. But aluminum baking sheets should be just fine with the proper care.
Is Aluminum Foil Safe?
If you’re like me, baking sheet liners are a convenient way to save time cleaning.
Aluminum foil is one of the most commonly used liners, but research suggests that high usage of aluminum foil can lead to negative health effects because it leaches into food when heated.
Parchment paper is another popular choice, especially for foods that bake at 350°F (180°C). Parchment paper is fine as long as it’s unbleached.
Bleached parchment paper may leach dioxins when heated. Dioxin is a by-product of the bleaching solution and can stay in the human body for up to 7 years.
The minuscule amount leached won’t do any immediate harm, but those looking to eliminate harmful chemicals from their baking should opt for unbleached parchment paper for extra precaution.
What Types of Non-Toxic Baking Sheets Are There?
Non-toxic baking sheets come in a variety of styles, sizes, and materials. But the material is the most important element in the safety of your bakeware. The safest bakeware materials are stainless steel, stone, ceramic, glass, and silicone.
Stainless Steel Baking Sheets
Stainless steel is a great material for baking because it’s durable, rust-resistant, heats evenly, and can handle higher temperatures. It’s not non-stick, so make sure you use cooking spray or oil on them before baking.
Many times, manufacturers add nickel to stainless steel to prevent rusting. The amount of chromium and nickel in a stainless steel alloy is listed as a percentage number. For instance, “18/10 stainless steel” has 18% chromium and 10% nickel.
If you let highly acidic or salty foods sit for a long time, it might release small amounts of nickel. You can avoid this by removing food from the pan (versus letting it sit for hours) or by buying nickel-free stainless steel cookie sheets (18/0 stainless).
The non-toxic stainless steel baking sheets I’ve recommended consist of either 18/10 or 18/0 stainless. That means you can bake without worry.
Ceramic Baking Sheets
Another non-toxic baking sheet option is ceramic. Ceramic baking sheets are naturally non-stick, durable, stain-resistant, and easy to clean.
If you’re set on having non-stick baking sheets, ceramic is your best option. You won’t find all the non-stick chemicals that have developed a bad reputation for harmful health effects.
A nice bonus? Ceramic can usually tolerate high heat, which means you’ll be able to bake at higher temperatures. Ceramic is also non-reactive, so it’s ideal for baking acidic foods.
In spite of ceramic’s advantages, many cookware companies aren’t forthcoming about the other ingredients they include in their non-stick coating. Some ceramic coatings still contain Teflon.
I recommend using caution. Check the product description and the manufacturer website for materials and care instructions.
Stoneware Baking Sheets
Stoneware is perfect for crisping foods in the oven. It has superb heat retention and doesn’t retain odors. Plus, it looks great and easily doubles as serving ware.
Stoneware baking pans come in two categories: unglazed and glazed. Unglazed stoneware is non-toxic, but it’s also porous and can absorb moisture. Glazed stoneware resists sticking and is easier to clean, but you have to be careful about the contents of the glaze.
I recommend unglazed stoneware over glazed, when you can find it. It’s a great choice for non-toxic bakeware. Just remember you can’t use soap or detergent on it. Instead, you should clean it with baking soda and water.
Glass is another option for non-toxic baking. Glass won’t warp in the dishwasher, and its transparency makes it easy to monitor food for doneness while cooking.
That being said, glass cooks a bit faster than metal, so you’ll have to adjust your cooking times if you choose to use glass bakeware.
Glass bakeware is also easy to clean. You can simply hand wash them in soapy water or most can be put in the dishwasher. To help release food, simply spray the baking pan with cooking oil or spray before using.
Most of the time, glass baking sheets are tempered to make them more durable and able to withstand higher temperatures.
They’re freezer-safe, too, but you should always let a dish cool to room temperature before putting it in the freezer. Thermal shock can happen, even to tempered glass. You don’t want to break your dish!

Silicone Baking Mats
Another great option for non-toxic baking is silicone. Silicone baking mats consist of silica and can be used for a variety of recipes and dishes. Silicon can handle high heat and is naturally non-stick.
Silicone mats are easy to clean, and some are even dishwasher-safe.
However, silicone does have its limitations. It can melt if exposed to extreme heat for long periods of time. I would avoid using the broiler with a silicone baking mat.
Silicone mats are especially popular for muffin tins, loaf pans, and cupcake liners. These baked goods all benefit from a non-stick surface, and their required cooking temperature is low enough to avoid any melting concerns.
