There’s nothing quite like a griddle for preparing breakfast. With a lip just high enough to stop egg or pancake mixture from dripping off the pan, yet low enough for a turner, these are truly a mom’s best friend.

Well, at least in the morning!

Perfect for eggs, bacon and pancakes, I’d be lost without a decent griddle.

In my opinion, the best griddle you can buy is the Lodge Cast Iron Griddle. It’s made from tough cast iron, so will last forever if you treat it right. It’s also naturally non stick, with no hint of chemicals in the coating.

Yet many people don’t class cast iron as non stick. If you’re in that group and want a true non stick griddle then you can’t go far wrong with the GreenLife Diamond Healthy Ceramic Griddle.

What To Look For In the Best Non Stick Griddle

Before you run out and buy your non stick griddle pan, there are some things you might want to take into consideration. Like the type of cooking you’re going to be doing.

Are you looking for a griddle you can take on a camping trip, or will you only use it for cooking large family meals at home?

When shopping for the best non stick griddle pan, consider the following:

Material

The material the griddle pan consists of will determine its heat conductivity and if it will cook evenly without creating hotspots.

Cast iron (or carbon steel) griddles are strong and long-lasting, but they take time to warm up. However, they’ll retain heat for longer.

Yet whether cast iron is truly non stick is debatable. Most people would likely say no. In my experience, if you maintain the seasoning correctly and take care when cooking, then it approaches non stick performance. Still, it isn’t Teflon!

Cast iron griddle pan for cooking pancakes.

Most griddle pans are aluminum or titanium with a non stick or ceramic coating. This lets them heat quickly and allows the food to brown evenly.

Also, aluminum and titanium are lightweight when compared to cast iron or steel. If you’re using an induction top, make sure the griddle’s base is magnetic; otherwise, the cookware won’t work.

Stainless steel isn’t the best choice for a griddle as it can be quite sticky.

Size

If you have a large family to cook breakfast for, consider a double-burner griddle. This will allow you to cook a lot more food quickly and easily.

If you’re a single person or a couple and need a pan solely for crepes or pancakes, the single burner will work very well. I normally manage with a single burner, but I have had to teach my children to each wait their turn for their pancake!

Also, square pans offer more surface space for cooking eggs and bacon, whereas round pans tend to heat a bit more consistently.

Stovetop or Electric

Depending on the type of cooking you’ll be doing, you may need to decide between a griddle pan that can go from the stovetop to the oven, or an electric griddle pan that you can have on your countertop.

  • Stovetop: The best non stick stovetop griddle offers more versatility as well as portability. For example, you can take your griddle pan with you on a camping trip to sear your steak over the fire after a day of hiking.
  • Electric: Electric griddle pans aren’t as versatile, but they come with rotary dials, allowing you better control over the griddle’s temperature.

Non Stick Coating

You can’t avoid non stick coatings, but you can check to see if the griddle pan you’re getting is free from cadmium, PFAS, PTFE, and lead.

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is the active component of Teflon. It should be safe as long as you keep the temperature below 260 °C (500 °F). Yet many people like to avoid it.

There are safer alternatives, such as ceramic and cast iron. Not all ceramic cookware is PTFE-free though – make sure to check the packaging or product description. (I’ve done that for you in these reviews.)

Unfortunately, it’s quite hard to find PTFE-free non stick griddles. If you’re determined on a PTFE-free non stick pan, yet don’t want cast iron, check out my Teflon-free pans review.

Also, look for griddle pans that can withstand higher temperatures, like cast iron, stainless steel, and anodized aluminum. These are less likely to leech harmful metals when heated.

The fumes from PTFE or Teflon, when they are overheated, can harm pet birds.

Warranties

If your griddle pan comes with a warranty, make sure you read the manual and care instructions. This will help prevent you from damaging the pan’s surface, and it will also say if the pan is dishwasher-proof.  I sometimes hear of warranties being voided because the instructions weren’t followed.

Also, don’t use metal utensils on the non stick surface, or put it in the dishwasher, if the manufacturer has recommended hand washing. Even if it is dishwasher safe, make sure nothing can touch the non stick coating on the pan inside the dishwasher.

The manual will also specify the temperatures the griddle pan can withstand. You shouldn’t exceed these, or you could damage the pan and forfeit the warranty.

Non Stick Griddle Reviews

Lodge Cast Iron Griddle—Best Overall Griddle

This Lodge Griddle pan is versatile and comes pre-seasoned, meaning you can use it immediately.

It’s made from cast iron, and you can use it on induction cooktops, conventional stovetops, in the oven or even over a campfire.

Lodge L9OG3 Cast Iron Round Griddle, Pre-Seasoned, 10.5-inch

With this cast iron griddle, you can expect it to take a little longer to warm up. However, once it gets going, it will heat evenly and retain the temperature so that you can sear, sauté or fry your meals.

Cast iron is, if treated correctly, naturally non stick, meaning that you won’t find any traces of PTFE (the active ingredient in Teflon).

The downside is that it’s not dishwasher safe, so you will have to clean by hand. It’s normally quite easy to clean. The manufacturer recommends seasoning it often to maintain its quality.

Another thing worth noting is that a small number of customers have reported their pan arriving damaged. It seems that Lodge may need to step up its quality control. Fortunately, it’s easy to get a replacement. Check your pan as soon as it arrives and return it in the unlikely event it has any damage.

Pros

  • Foundry-seasoned
  • Suitable for all cooking surfaces
  • Oven-safe
  • Heats evenly and retains heat well
  • Long-lasting
  • Cast Iron is PTFE-Free (No Teflon)

Cons

  • Not dishwasher-safe
  • Cast iron requires maintenance
  • Small number of users report receiving damaged pans

GreenLife Diamond Healthy Ceramic Griddle—Best Non Stick Griddle

If you’re not into cast iron, I recommend this aluminum griddle pan from GreenLife. I like this pan because GreenLife made it with recycled aluminum, meaning less waste and a more eco-friendly product. GreenLife has a range of eco-friendly cookware, as you can see in my guide to GreenLife cookware.

This ceramic griddle features a special non stick coating free from PFAS, lead, and cadmium. Although it’s not clearly stated if it is free of PTFE (the active ingredient in Teflon), I believe it doesn’t contain PTFE given the coating used.

GreenLife Soft Grip Diamond Healthy Ceramic Nonstick 11" Griddle Pan, PFAS-Free, Dishwasher Safe, Black

The aluminum heats quickly and evenly, which makes frying eggs, bacon or even burgers a pleasure. Another great feature is the large non stick surface, consisting of Diamond Reinforced Technology. The food lifts off effortlessly and it’s easy to clean up.

Sadly, the surface coating isn’t as durable as hoped, and can get damaged if not treated properly. Never use metal utensils and wash according to instructions.

Note that it can it’s oven-safe up to 177°C (350°F). This actually isn’t very high, so be careful if using in the oven. Personally, I never put my griddle in the oven anyway!

As well as the oven, you can use it on gas, electric, or ceramic stoves. No matter the cooking method, it has a stay-cool handle so you won’t burn your hand.

Unfortunately, if you have an induction cooktop, this pan isn’t suitable, as it doesn’t have the required ferrous metal

Another thing to note is that some users received a damaged product. Fortunately, it’s easy to get a replacement, but make sure you check right away.

Pros

  • Soft-touch stay-cool handle
  • Ceramic non stick coating
  • Dishwasher safe

Cons

  • Not suitable for induction stovetops
  • Some customers report cooking surface getting damaged
  • May contain PTFE (Teflon) – this isn’t clear

T-fal B16713 Initiatives non stick Griddle Cookware—Best Budget Griddle

T-fal is a well-known brand, famous for its many innovative technologies, and this pan is no different.

The B16713 includes T-fal’s Thermo-Spot Technology. This consists of an indicator in the center of the pan alerting you when the pan has reached an optimal cooking temperature. Not something I use myself, but it’s nice to have.

Also, made from a combination of stainless steel and aluminum, this pan heats evenly and quickly. It is suitable for the oven and can withstand temperatures up to 177°C (350°F). (Though this isn’t very high – so take care if using the oven.)

T-fal Initiatives Nonstick Griddle 10.25 Inch Oven Safe 350F Pots and Pans, Dishwasher Safe Black

In addition, the Proglide non stick surface makes cleaning even the stickiest messes easy—you can even put it into the dishwasher. The downside to dishwasher cleaning is that if you forget to season the pan after every 10th wash, the non stick coating is likely to perish quickly.

Finally, this griddle pan comes with a lifetime limited warranty. Make sure that you take proper care of it so that the warranty isn’t forfeited.

However, the pan is somewhat warped in the center, which can make it fall to the side. The griddle itself is also very light, and the handle is heavy, meaning that it can tip backward. This griddle is also included as a part of a larger T-fal set.

Pros

  • Thermo-Spot Technology for ease of use
  • Suitable for all heat sources
  • Dishwasher-proof
  • Affordable

Cons

  • It’s easy to forget to season the pan after every 10th wash, which could compromise the coating’s integrity
  • The pan is slightly warped in the center
  • Quite handle heavy, causing it to tip backwards when empty
  • Contains PTFE (the active ingredient of Teflon)

Farberware non stick Griddle Pan—Best Dishwasher-Safe Griddle

This Farberware option is my best non stick griddle for gas stove or electric stovetop. It’s made from durable aluminum that heats up evenly, preventing hot spots. This ensures your food isn’t unevenly cooked.

Furthermore, what I like is the SmartGlide non stick coating, which lets you flip food easily. It’s also effortless to keep clean.

Farberware - 21745 Farberware High Performance Nonstick Griddle Pan/Flat Grill, 11 Inch, Black

However, although it’s non stick, some users didn’t like the textured surface, arguing that it’s difficult to get your utensil under the food. That’s a disappointment as the whole point of the low sides on a griddle is to give your turner more room.

A quick fix for this, would be to allow your food to cook enough before you flip it.

Note that the handle is double-riveted, so you have peace of mind knowing it won’t come off while moving it. It’s also a cool-touch handle to move the griddle pan safely between the stove and the oven.

While it is oven safe, it’s recommended that you only use low and medium temperatures—up to 177°C (350°F)—otherwise, the pan could warp.

The square pan also gives you more space to cook more burger patties or grilled cheese sandwiches on it.

Pros

  • Lifetime warranty
  • SmartGlide non stick system
  • Oven and dishwasher safe
  • Suitable for electric or gas stovetops
  • Affordable

Cons

  • Pan can warp above 177°C (350°F)
  • The cooking surface is textured, which may not suit everyone
  • Not suitable for glass or ceramic stovetops—it may melt
  • Contains PTFE (Teflon active ingredient)

Cuisinart Double-Burner Griddle—Best Double-Burner Griddle

If you’re having a family get-together and are cooking a lot of food, a double-burner griddle is an excellent addition to your cookware collection. This particular Cuisinart griddle uses heat surround technology for even heat distribution and has sloped sides so you can maximize the cooking surface area.

It also features a hard-anodized exterior and stainless steel handles, making it strong and long-lasting. However, some users noted that the heat distribution wasn’t the best—some parts remain a lot cooler than others.

Cuisinart Griddle Skillet, Nonstick Double Burner, 10x18-Inch, MCP45-25NSP1

The titanium non stick coating ensures a healthy, durable cooking surface that’s also easy to clean.

Customers like how the handles stay cool to the touch while cooking, which allows you to move it safely from stovetop to counter. You can let it cool off and then pop it in the dishwasher for easy cleaning.

Note that you can use this double-burner on most stovetops, giving it excellent versatility.

The downsides are that some customers found it didn’t work on their induction tops. Additionally, more than one has reported that the pan warped even when used within the right temperature range—up to 260°C (500°F).

This griddle pan also comes with a lifetime warranty, but take care to treat it right so as not to void this.

Pros

  • Suitable for induction cooktops
  • Heat Surround™ technology
  • Hard-anodized exterior
  • Lifetime warranty

Cons

  • Some customers report that the pan warps for no reason
  • Poor heat distribution
  • Reports of it not working on induction cooktops
  • Likely contains PTFE

Emeril Lagasse Double-Burner Griddle—Runner-Up Double Burner Griddle

Made from durable aluminum, this double-burner griddle has a hard-anodized body, which is great for heat conduction.

You can use this product on any stovetop—it comes in handy when you need to whip up large batches of eggs and bacon or burger patties.

The sides are slightly raised on this griddle to prevent food from rolling off accidentally. It’s also oven-safe, making it perfect for roasting vegetables and chicken.

What I like is that the handles have a wider grip and remain cool to the touch for added safety. They’re also riveted in place so you can move the griddle pan around without getting burned.

Note that the pan has a triple-layer non stick coating, which makes cleaning effortless, plus it’s dishwasher-safe. It’s supposed to be metal utensil safe. Yet in practice, it appears to scratch easily. Avoid using metal utensils with it, whatever the manufacturer claims.

This griddle pan is also quite thin, and it could warp if used in extremely high temperatures—higher than 232°C (450°F).

Pros

  • Made from durable and long-lasting heavy-gauge aluminum
  • Triple-layer non stick coating
  • Can go from stovetop to oven

Cons

  • Some may find the pan to be too thin and that it warps
  • Cooking surface scratches easily
  • Non-optimal heat distribution—you may need to experiment with the flame
  • Contains PTFE (active ingredient in Teflon)

OXO Good Grips non stick Pro Griddle—Best Square Single-Burner Griddle

The next option is this square pan from OXO. It’s cleverly designed to make flipping food easy and increase cooking space, thanks to its low sides

What’s more, it offers excellent heat conduction, as it’s made from hard-anodized aluminum. You can use it in the oven for extra convenience. However, be careful not to expose it to temperatures exceeding 220°C (430°F) as it can easily warp.

OXO Good Grips Pro 11" Griddle Pan, 3-Layered German Engineered Nonstick Coating, Dishwasher Safe, Oven Safe, Stainless Steel Handle, Black

Although it’s versatile, it doesn’t have the ferrous metal needed for induction cooktops.

It features a triple-layer non stick coating, which is unusual and makes it more durable than others.

Another useful feature is the cool-to-touch stainless steel handles, making it easy to move. It also has rolled edges that allow for drip-free pouring.

You can either wash this pan by hand or put it in the dishwasher. One thing to note is that it’s quite handle heavy—the pan itself is lightweight, so it may tip toward the handle when empty.

Pros

  • Hard-anodized aluminum
  • Has rolled edges
  • Oven and dishwasher-safe
  • Can go from the stovetop to the oven

Cons

  • Not suitable for induction tops
  • Surface warps under high temperatures
  • Handle heavy, which may cause it to tip easily
  • Appears to contain PTFE (main part of Teflon)

Calphalon Contemporary Square Griddle Pan—Runner-Up Square Single-Burner Griddle

For smaller households, the Calphalon griddle is a perfect pick. It’s a square contemporary pan, with 11-inch (28cm) sides.

What’s great about this griddle is that it’s made from hard-anodized aluminum. This heats quickly and evenly, helping you brown the food.

Calphalon Contemporary Hard-Anodized Aluminum Nonstick Cookware, Square Griddle Pan, 11-inch, Black

Another great feature, for those who often burn their fingers, is the cool to touch handle. Even so, the griddle can withstand heat up to 232°C (450°F). It would be best if you didn’t expose it to temperatures higher than that though, as it could cause the pan to warp.

Furthermore, the pan’s interior has three layers of non stick coating, allowing for easy and quick food-release. You’ll also be able to wipe away any mess easily or pop it into the dishwasher. It does have a slender lip, so you’d have to watch that it doesn’t drip when moving it.

There have been reports that the low sides mean wet food can slide right off the pan. Yet low sides are part of what make a griddle. If you want to cook wet food that slides around a lot, consider a frying pan.

The pan comes with a lifetime warranty, and you’ll need to read the instructions to ensure that you don’t forfeit this. For example, avoid using metal utensils.

Some customers have reported the pan warping despite caring for it properly. This may reduce its heat retention ability and make it wonky on the stovetop.

Pros

  • Lifetime warranty
  • Stay-cool handle
  • Slender lip
  • Hard-anodized

Cons

  • Customers warn that this pan may warp, despite treating it properly
  • Heat retention may decrease over time
  • Contains PTFE (the active part of Teflon)

Presto 07061 22-Inch Electric Griddle—Best Electric Griddle

The Presto 07061 wins first place for the best non stick electric griddle. This is a big pan, offering a massive 231 square-inch (1490 square-centimeter) cooking surface. It enables you to cook large batches of food easily and quickly. It was one of my top choices for best electric skillet.

Made from heavy cast aluminum, the heat will distribute evenly, and you won’t have to worry about the pan warping.

Presto 07061 22-inch Electric Griddle With Removable Handles, Black, 22-inch

You’re able to set and maintain the temperature setting with the master heat controller for precise cooking. Another fantastic feature if you love easy clean ups—who doesn’t—is the slide-out drip tray. This will catch liquids and is effortless to clean when not attached.

The griddle pan has a textured non stick surface, allowing air to circulate between the pan’s surface and food. This helps to brown the food and flip food more easily while being a breeze to clean.

With that said, the manufacturer doesn’t specify if the non stick coat is PTFE-free, so it likely contains PTFE.

Finally, you can immerse the pan in water once you remove the heat controller. To make life easier, the handles can also come off. This allows you to clean it and store it more easily.

However, some of the parts seem a bit flimsy, especially the drip pan. It may not last as long as the griddle itself.

Pros

  • Slide-out drip tray
  • Master heat control
  • Removable handles
  • Heavy cast aluminum base

Cons

  • May contain traces of PTFE or PFOA in the non stick coating
  • Some parts appear flimsy
  • Will it fit on your countertop?

NutriChef Non Stick 12-Inch Aluminum Griddle—Runner-Up Electric Griddle

Last up, we have another electric griddle, this time from NutriChef. This is a round griddle, and more compact than the Presto above. If you’re going to be using it every day, it’ll fit nicely on the countertop without getting in the way.

A notable feature is the LED indicator, which lets you know when the temperature is perfect to start cooking. On top of this, a built-in rotary dial on the front lets you control and adjust the temperature. However, it may take some guesswork, as it doesn’t have any temperature guides on it.

nutrichef Electric Griddle Crepe Maker Cooktop - Nonstick 12 Inch Aluminum Hot Plate with LED Indicator Lights & Adjustable Temperature Control - Wooden Spatula & Batter Spreader Included

Be aware that some customers report the heating to be inconsistent, even after they got the hang of the dial, resulting in very slow or uneven cooking.

Even so, the griddle pan has a raised lip that will help to prevent liquids from spilling over. It also has a non stick aluminum surface, which makes lifting eggs or flipping pancakes very easy, as well as being easy to clean.

Pros

  • Adjustable temperature
  • LED temperature indicator
  • Compact design
  • Non stick aluminum construction

Cons

  • Some customers find the heating to be inconsistent
  • Not large enough for big families
  • No temperature guide on the control dial
